Five people got together on August 15th, 1993 and set out to find the perfect place to be alone. They came across a mountain. It was very large and covered with trees. They were not alone. They left the mountain and shortly thereafter, they came upon a forest. But alas, they were still not alone. So, they parted from the forest and journeyed once more until they came across a vast desert. Still, they were not alone. Finally, one of them looked at his four companions and killed each of them. Alone at last, I lived the rest of my days in the desert happily.
Ruby Bridges is 68. This is not ancient history. Not even close.
I know Ruby. She’s a really nice person. The idea that they would try and write what she did as a girl out of history is shocking to me on so many levels, the simplest of which is just, but don’t they know how lovely she is?

I’m loving this new trend of people going to zoos and participating in animal enrichment. We use to observe large exotic animals for our entertainment, but the fact is that we are now trying to make ourselves equally as entertaining for them. It’s interactive, completely parpicipatory and I would argue that eventually someone’s gonna come up with something new enough that it expland ethologists understanding about how some animals think, problem solve, communicate and feel and I think its fantastic.

i know it’s an example of me taking idioms too literally, but the phrase “when you have a hammer everything looks like a nail” never fails to make me imagine something like when that lion in madagascar starts hallucinating all his friends as slabs of steak
